54 Hours Later

Here's the latest from Irwin in Nepal:

"Jack has arrived safe. Everything is going fine.

The reason for writing so late is that Jack and myself have been talking non-stop for the last couple of hours.

He is at my place taking a shower. He will be having an early dinner and
retiring for today. I have come to the shop to email you and inform Chrys (Jack's wife] that he's doing great.

Jack will be writing to you tomorrow.

First Impressions

The classroom and newly met students

When I arrived in Kathmandu and Irwin met me at the airport we knew each other instantly. It took two hours to get through customs. I was told that was a RECORD and could normally take a day or two process the the amount of equipment we were bringing in.

Irwin opened his home to me. We talked for hours when I first arrived.

Today we saw the classroom and facilities. The contrast is remarkable. Everywhere I look there is a picture to be taken that tells a story. In three hundred and sixty degrees there are a hundred and fifty that have people, animals or new things in a colorful jumble. Sometimes the smell is so thick and rich it would be hard to describe. We had lunch at a diner that only employed the deaf for waiters and when they saw my hearing aids I COULD SEE THEM TALKING AND SMILING IN MY DIRECTION.

There are already so many things to tell you I could write a book. This is turning out to be even more wonderful than I thought and I feel so alive. It’s impossible to put it all in words.

Got to say bye for now.
